The 13th annual Leading European Architecture Forum (LEAF) Awards were recently announced at a gala dinner in South Kensington, London. This year’s winners included Spanish starchitect Santiago Calatrava, who was honored for lifetime achievement, as well as celebrated firms across the globe.

Founded in 2001, the Leading European Architecture Forum (LEAF) Awards is an annual ceremony for architects, designers, developers and suppliers. It recognizes innovative architectural design and excellence in building from around the world, with a promise that projects of all shapes and sizes will be “judged on a level playing field.”

Jim Gaither and Jim Gaither Jr. of Hanover Page Mill Associates wanted their new 87,000-square-foot commercial office building to have net zero electrical usage with 100% of the electrical load offset by on-site PV generation. The owners also wanted a beautiful PV system.

The most sustainable project to hit Silicon Valley yet is teed up to deliver this summer at 1400 Page Mill Rd, and Bisnow took a walk around the development with the point man behind the family-owned project. Hanover Page Mill Associates’ James Gaither tells us the 87k SF project in Palo Alto’s Stanford Research Park will set a new standard for quality and sustainability in commercial office buildings (here’s James with his dad, Jim, who also is involved). James and Jim believe energy efficiency and Net Zero Electric are valuable building attributes in today’s market, but will become essential in the future. The project is designed to meet the standards of LEED Platinum and Net Zero Electric from solar.

Morgan Lewis signs on for new Palo Alto project
In one of the most significant law firm leases this year, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP will move a couple hundred feet from its current home to a new project in Palo Alto’s Stanford Research Park.
The law firm said it pre-leased 60,000 square feet at 1400 Page Mill Road, an 87,000-square-foot development that will start construction in mid-2014. Morgan Lewis is currently in about 53,000 square feet at 2 Palo Alto Square.
